Currently, DRACOON supports the ability to authenticate users via a connected RADIUS server. This authentication option will no longer be supported and will be removed in the future.
What's the meaning of this change?
In the 1st quarter of 2021, a new version of DRACOON will be released in which it will no longer be possible to perform authentication via a connected RADIUS server. Support for RADIUS servers will be removed from DRACOON at that time.
As an alternative, we recommend authentication via the more modern and flexible OpenID Connect method, which allows connecting user directories to DRACOON (e.g. Azure Active Directory, AD FS, Keycloak).
Why is this feature no longer supported?
RADIUS was launched in the 1990s for authentication and connection of user directories and is now considered technically obsolete. DRACOON supported RADIUS since 2014; since mid-2017, the more modern and flexible OpenID Connect has been available in DRACOON for authentication and connection of user directories. Since only very few DRACOON customers use RADIUS anymore, we have decided to remove support for it from DRACOON.
Am I affected?
If a RADIUS server is connected to your DRACOON and users sign in to your DRACOON through it, you are affected by this change.
Which actions do I have to take?
Check if a RADIUS server is configured in your DRACOON system settings under "Authentication". If so, you should switch to another authentication method in DRACOON, such as OpenID Connect (recommended) or Active Directory.
